Management Profile
smartData management is a rich mix of experience and youth from diverse multi-cultural background across the globe. Our investors include accomplished entrepreneurs and seasoned business professionals from US, Japan and India drawing from multi-faceted and advanced education from India, US and UK. Our employees average age is 25 and they come from 30 different states in India.

Dr. Sanjai Tiwari - Director/Chairman
Dr. Sanjai Tiwari brings the business and technology expertise from Silicon Valley and East Coast, US and Japan. He gained exposure to technology management in US while working on large-scale projects at Bank of America, Qualcomm, Home Shopping Network and IBM.

He did his B. Tech. from IIT Kanpur and MS/PhD from Stanford University in California, USA. He had been granted a First Invention Achievement Award from IBM CEO and a patent on query optimization for very large databases, which was adopted in IBM DB2 product. While working in Silicon Valley, he worked at various startups including a database company - Persistence Software, which went public in 1999. He has raised multi-million dollar financing for his startup idea related to digital promotions management. In Japan, he has consulted for a major bank in their merger of technology platforms for risk management including credit and market trading warehouses.

Dr. Tiwari actively serves as the Chairman of Board for smartData Enterprises.

Ajay Tewari - CEO
Ajay Tewari, Chief Executive Officer, earned his B. Tech. in International Shipping and Trade, from University of Liverpool, U.K. & a Bachelor of Nautical Sciences from Bombay University, India.

Ajay is a founding member and a Director of smartData since its inception in 1999. Going up the ladder through positions of COO & Vice President Sales, he took the reins of the company as a CEO in the year 2004. He brings to the company a unique set of entrepreneurial skills aligning to the founding vision. Before moving into the software Ajay served a multiple year stint in the merchant navy traveling across the globe and getting valuable exposure to their culture and business practices.

Skillfully managing and maximizing resources, market timing with efficiency, he landed in the software industry running a decade ago. He has demonstrated business acumen to elevate smartData, into a well knit, well managed and a well organized company. The company has witnessed accelerated growth in multiple geographies under his leadership. He resides in India and travels frequently to US, UK and Australia to meet with the customers.

Dr. Ashish Gupta
Ashish has extensive experience in software development and related technologies. Prior to joining Woodside Fund, he was an active advisor and investor in several information technology companies, working with the entrepreneurs and management teams on all aspects of their businesses. Ashish was Founder, Vice President of Engineering, and Director of Junglee Corporation, a data integration software company. Junglee was an early pioneer of the web services business model and was acquired by Amazon.com for $230 million in 1998. Ashish was responsible for engineering and operations, and he helped grow the company from 5 to 70 people. Before Junglee, Ashish was Senior Member of Technical Staff at Oracle Corporation, and also held technical research positions at IBM and Stanford University. He is the holder of seven patents and has written and presented numerous papers at international conferences, including a book published by MIT Press. Ashish has a Ph.D. in computer science from Stanford University and a B.A. in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur, where he was awarded the President's Gold Medal. In addition to traveling, Ashish likes watching theater, playing racquet sports, and woodworking.

Mason Brutschy
Mason has over 25 years of experience in the financial, administrative, and operational areas of a broad range of firms spanning technology, biotech, retail, and property management. He is presently the VP Finance and Administration at perfect.com . Prior to joining Perfect, Mason was CFO and also served as co-CEO of Fidus Medical Technologies.

Prior to Fidus, he was CFO of Air Communications, a supplier of wireless Internet products and services. He has also held senior financial positions with Safeway Corporation, the Fairmont Hotel Group, and Sutter Hill Ventures, a Palo Alto VC firm. Mason began his career at KPMG Peat Marwick. He is a Certified Public Accountant, and earned his BA and MBA from the UC Berkeley.

Dr. Ranjit Mand
Dr. Ranjit Mand is the CTO, optical components at Comstellar Technologies. He has extensive experience in fiber optic communications, spanning everything from teaching graduate courses, to research and development, engineering management, marketing, new business development, and entrepreneurship. He has held positions at Bell Northern Research in Canada, Toshiba Corporation in Japan , and AT&T Bell Labs and Furukawa Electric in the U.S.A.

He helped create Optical Communications Products, Inc., an active data link manufacture, and served on the company's Board for 3 years. More recently, he was instrumental in forming three startups: Cinta Corporation, a DWDM telecom products manufacturer, Tera Fiberoptics, Inc., a DWDM passive components manufacturer, and Axcel Photonics, Inc., a high power laser diode manufacturer. He holds 6 patents, and is a recipient of The Insignia Award given for work in optoelectronics devices. A graduate of British universities, he has a BS in Physics with Solid State Electronics, an MS in Microelectronics, and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
