PFT Now in United States

Product Summary

The client required a HIPAA-compliant diagnostic test platform to digitize how PFT reports are uploaded, interpreted, reviewed, signed, and archived. The goal was to reduce manual PDF handling, improve physician review efficiency, and maintain secure clinical workflow traceability.

smartData proposed an AI-powered web platform using OCR and medical LLMs to extract report data, generate diagnostic interpretations, route reports to physicians, support review/editing, and enable secure e-signature-based final report generation.

Phase 2 extended the platform with patient-centric file management, multiple report association, individual AI interpretation mapping, consolidated master report generation, physician sign-off workflows, and centralized archival.

Features

  • AI-Based Diagnostic Interpretation : Uses OCR and medical LLMs to process uploaded PFT reports and generate structured clinical interpretations
  • Physician Review & E-Signature : Enables physicians to review, edit, approve, and securely sign diagnostic reports within the platform
  • Clinician Report Upload & Tracking : Allows testing clinicians to upload PDFs, assign physicians, monitor report status, and download signed reports
  • Patient-Centric Multi-Report Management : Links multiple diagnostic reports under one patient file with individual AI mapping and consolidated report handling
  • HIPAA Audit & Compliance Controls : Maintains secure access, encrypted data handling, audit logs, traceability, and role-based workflow governance

Technical Challenges

  • AI interpretation accuracy for clinical reports : Integrated medical LLM workflows with physician review controls so AI-generated interpretations remain editable, validated, and clinically approved before final sign-off
  • HIPAA-compliant handling of ePHI : Implemented secure authentication, encrypted access, role-based permissions, audit logs, automatic logoff, and protected report storage for sensitive patient data
  • Manual PDF upload, review, and signing workflow : Built a structured diagnostic workflow covering PDF upload, OCR processing, AI interpretation, physician review, e-signature, and final signed report generation
  • Patient-centric multi-report management : Designed Phase 2 enhancements to link multiple diagnostic reports under one patient file with individual AI mapping and consolidated master report generation
  • Auditability and traceability across clinical actions : Maintained logs for uploads, AI outputs, physician edits, signatures, timestamps, user activity, and final report archival to support compliance and review readiness
