The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world and its effect will last. It has disrupted global economies and businesses operations.

Human Resource function has changed substantially. HR managers are currently faced with challenges as it has caused them to adopt different approaches and rethink their role as Human Resources (HR) has always been a key player in implementing change within the organization.

Organizations need to think about how to shape a future with a “new normal” which makes the role of HR of critical importance. As we settle to a new normal, the organizations are shifting their workforce from remote to office, keeping their safety in mind.

Health and safety: HR needs to find ways for people to return to the workplace with minimum risk to their safety and well-being.

Workforce capacity: As with the new normal, people are returning to the office. HR has to adopt a flexible approach to ensure that sufficient capacity of the workforce who are vital to business get back to work.

People-centric culture: The social dynamic has changed due to varying working conditions. HR dept has to re-establish the organization culture to preserve their core values.

Organization Structure: HR plays an integral role in the up-skilling of the employees. Moving forward, HR needs to redesign the org structure by focusing on their employees by providing them with necessary skills that can be transferable to new roles and can be applied in a broader context. i.e designing an org structure that is resilient and highly adaptive to future uncertainties.

Covid-19 pandemic has changed how businesses used to operate. Organizations were forced to transform and adapt to new normal. The HR department has to ensure the health and safety of the employees. They have to adopt new strategies to meet organizational needs. Organizations have to be agile and resilient to survive in the market. After all, Covid-19 is most likely to be in 2022 and we have to live with it.
