Digital natives are the people who have grown up under the ubiquitous influence of the internet and other modern information technologies. Digital natives think, learn, and understand the world around them differently from people who have not been as subjected to modern technology. The term is often used synonymous with ‘Millennial’, though not all digital natives are Millennials — for example, the members of the newest generation, Gen Z, are more on the digital native side.
Digital Natives have grown up with technology and can handle any technical task fast, whereas other generations, such as Gen X, Gen Y, and others, require a long time to finish a simple technical activity that digital natives can complete in seconds. Digital Natives are naturally surrounded by technology and do not require any nurturing, whereas the older generations like Gen X, Gen Y need nurturing to get accustomed to the technology. These elder generations are regarded as “old school” by digital natives, who find it difficult to comprehend modern world technologies. Digital natives believe themselves to be significantly superior to older generations due to newer technology, and this is partially accurate.
Mobile is the first screen for digital natives, who have seen practically everything happen on a mobile device. Gen Z was the last generation to experience the technological move from desktop, laptop, and other devices to mobile devices, while subsequent generations have only seen mobile devices, which eventually became the first screen they saw following their birth. People are more comfortable controlling practically everything through their mobile devices and do not bother to turn on their laptops for ordinary reasons, which the digital natives only noticed when the second generation began to accept the new technology.
